January is forever viewed as the dreary month after Christmas, if it was a person it might just be a Debbie downer (you all know the type) but for me January is rarely that month – sure the weather is notoriously terrible and so far January is not letting us down on that front but it’s the month of new beginnings, fresh diary pages to fill and a whole lot of looking forward. With a new baby arriving in just over three months (eeeee!) I’m in full organisation mode planning not one, not two but three room renovations and of course I wouldn’t be me without thinking about a few pieces I might like to add to my wardrobe to help mix up my everyday uniform along the way.

As I’ve mentioned before I’m determined to not buy too many maternity specific pieces (in fact there’s only one featured above because it’s pretty and pink) as with all the good intentions in the world you just don’t wear them again, in fact if you’re anything like me in my first pregnancy, you can’t wait to see the back of them! So far I’ve been following the maternity bottom half and regular top half and at six months pregnant it’s working pretty well. Topshop has been a firm favourite for years but recently it’s not been my forte, that is until I watched A Style Albums video and I found myself heading straight over to the site. I love Lou & Ems style and the fact they’re both thirty plus means they’re picking pieces that aren’t crop tops and mom jeans. In my mind I’m already styling up this checked coat with maternity straight legs and Gucci loafers and pulling out this mustard button down shirt post baby. Another look that’s got me hot under the collar is the patterned midi dress which would be perfect with my Dorateymur ankle boots for now and with white trainers and a leather jacket come Spring. Finally I’m envisaging that black button down knit from & Other Stories with an oversized shirt already in my wardrobe with a red lip and my maternity faux leather leggings for an all kinds of sass look and wouldn’t that wild ones tee be just perfect post pregnancy? Anything with my surname on it always gets my vote. As for the only maternity piece in the jigsaw I think this pink dotty number would be sweet with the grey looks-more-expensive-than-it-is embroidered knit for an unexpected day time mix up.

Have you started to browse the new-in sections? Do you try and buy pieces that’ll last?

They’re just beautiful aren’t they Eloise? I may have already picked one of them up! Thank you so much, it feels like it’s flying by!
