September Wardrobe Inspiration

As soon as a few sunless days show their face in the midst of August I, like any self respecting clothing obsessive start plotting my September wardrobe. August is the best time to lay the foundations of your Autumn Winter wardrobe particularly in the coat and ankle boot department and while you might not be wearing said items for a little while yet (fingers crossed) the best buys from the high street are notoriously snapped up now. This ladies and gents is my exact reason, read excuse if you’re inclined for compiling this swoon worthy/couldn’t-be-more-me collection of items which is certainly my inspiration for September.

Trends come and go but for me A/W wouldn’t be the season I adore without leopard print, metallics, simple cosy knits and shades typical of the tumbling leaves. Slogan tees have been everywhere this year and while some can feel a little juvenile even I can’t sniff at Hushs’ understated, A/W appropriate take on this trend. Kudos Hush, this pink knit is sublime. At this time of year the word transitional gets bandied around like it’s going out of style but even I can’t help saying this mustard blouse is just that, wear now with straight legged jeans or layer up with a thermal and oversized boyfriend cardigan when the temperatures drop. This season I’m determined to replace long standing wardrobe favourites which have seen better days – take a bow my well loved navy GAP blazer coat and curtsey for me H&M leopard print coat, you’ve been the best friends a girl could have but it’s time you were upgraded. Another wardrobe staple are my Topshop loafers, I have 3 pairs which are in constant rotation so I’m starting to wonder if now is the right time to upgrade to a Gucci pair? I’ve been going back and forth on this one for ages and I rather naughtily tried a pair on in Leeds earlier this week and yes they are as comfortable as everyone says but watch out, they seem to run on the larger side so get sizing down.

I’m a firm believer in developing a uniform for your everyday style and an item that has been a serious babe in my wardrobe for the Spring Summer season is the pleated midi skirt so I’m sure it won’t come as a shock that I’m thinking of adding a more appropriate Autumn Winter one to my collection. I love how this Whistles number would work at a Christmas party with heels and a glitzy top as it would with an oversized knit and mannish ankle boots. Speaking of accessories two areas I’m looking to up the ante in are necklaces (I adore these moon and horn pendants from & Other Stories) and bags. Now bags have always been my jam, in my early designer bag buying days I was hugely inspired by celebrities (hello Chloe Paddington & Balenciaga City) before becoming enamoured by Mulberry but my how my tastes differ now. While I’m itching to own a Chanel Boy (aren’t we all?) I’m genuinely desperado for some new cross body choice in my stash – I love how this & Other Stories number gives a nod to Chloe but I’m also a little bit heart eyed for this Aspinal beauty. Watch this space.

What do you make of my picks? Which pieces are you determined to upgrade this season?
