Bardot dress: M&S / Willow clutch: Mulberry / Trina sandals: Sam Edelman
As the title would suggest I’ve got a lot of love for Lake Como – if I had to close my eyes and picture myself anywhere in the world you can bet your bottom dollar it’d be in Italy so it’ll come as no surprise that Lake Como is a real fave, in fact it was the destination for our honeymoon last April so you can imagine my delight when my dad suggested we join him, my mum, brother, sister in law and niece for a break on the Lakes. We’re staying in Menaggio and completely lucked out/my dad chose well with our airbnb which boasts the best views, three bathrooms, a hot tub, a shared but may as well be private pool as we’ve only seen one couple once and even a resident fig tree! Now holidaying with family certainly has its challenges as well as its triumphs, only my dad and Craig could go out for shopping and end up on a speed boat – boating aside the glaringly obvious benefit is grandparents on hand for that extra helping hand which we naturally took full advantage of on the 16th August to mark our 16 month anniversary with a four course child free meal at Grand Hotel Tremezzo the destination for our honeymoon. The hotel is absolutely beautiful – think Lion King playing pianist, candles and the most jaw dropping views and you wouldn’t be far wrong, throw in mouth watering food and fantastic service and you’ve got a night to remember so of course I had to dress up for the occasion.
As soon as I knew our date night was a go there was only one dress I was going to wear, the can-you-believe-it’s-M&S dress of dreams which I hunted here, there and everywhere for after spotting the ever stylish Erica Davies sporting it. Now I’ve never really been one for a bardot style, particularly on my broad shoulders but something about this lightweight floaty dress with floral almost leopard print pattern just spoke to me and I think it really works. I love the level of detail shown by M&S from the flared sleeves to pretty tassel tie belt and the fact it’s lined 3/4 of the way negating the worry of the dreaded vpl. At almost £50 it wasn’t the cheapest buy (although it did go into the sale) but it looks a lot more expensive than its price tag and I’ve no doubts it’d be priced higher in somewhere like Topshop. Keeping the look light, airy and Lake Como I went with neutral tan accessories in the shape of my Mulberry clutch and worn to death Sam Edelman sandals, perfect for giving a bit of lift without you feeling all high heeled and stompy which is never a good look when there’s hills involved.
With our holiday fast approaching its end (can you hear the sobs in England?) I’m looking for the positives, not the fact they’ll be no gelato, pizza or more importantly sunshine on tap and concentrating on things like my Autumn Winter wardrobe, catching up with friends and watching the last season of House Of Cards. Until next Summer dress of dreams…
Have you ever holidayed in Italy? What do you make of this M&S beauty?
