It’s been just over a month since an outfit post has been seen around these parts and I haven’t even got any excuses, just body hang ups. I say ‘just body hang ups’ like it’s something that’s throw away and not important but that’s my way of deflecting/making light of things as I’ve always been a glass half full type of gal. I think as a mum you put a lot of people before yourself and while that’s more than alright 99 days out of 100 you have that one day when you realise you’ve not been eating as well as you should which is always the perfect time to get on the scales before realising your roots are well overdue a refresh and of course it’s this same day that you decide you despise everything in your wardrobe and discover a huge spot brewing. I’ve no doubt you’ve all had one of those days too as we’re all human, my way of fixing things? Avoiding the camera (hence minimal outfit posts) and giving bread a wide birth because I swear that’s where my extra pounds came from.
Carb loading aside I find the perfect antidote to combat a case of the body blues is to throw on something bright, add a pair of shades and go which is exactly what I did for a toddler free date night meets 30th birthday party this Saturday. With the sun shining Craig even suggested walking to the venue instead of getting a taxi – once I realised he wasn’t joking I got on board with the idea and I’m so pleased I did as I can’t tell you how nice it was to walk and talk for half an hour plus the brisk stroll meant it wasn’t half as bad that I ate my bodyweight in chicken at Lucky Fox (if you’re based in Sheffield you need to go). Craig and I had the best night and I’m putting some of the fun down to my go red or go home Urban Outfitters dress which I’ve had my eye on (in white) for an age. After doing the shall I, shan’t I online dance it subsequently sold out which of course made me want it all the more so you can imagine my glee when I checked the new in section and spotted it in red. I love how fitted it is around the bust, the fact that the straps are adjustable, the button down detailing and let’s all take a moment to appreciate the fact it’s got pockets!
In terms of accessories I decided to play it safe with neutrals and while my black block heels would have been banging (do people even say that?) they were quickly vetoed at the thought of walking all the way into town in them. Now I’ve never been one for the matchy matchy life but I do think my classic Sam Edelman tan sandals clash somewhat with my & Other Stories bag – in an ideal world this wouldn’t have happened (this would) but when you’ve got pesto pasta to dish up, pyjamas to lay out and instructions to leave for your babysitter the which-bag-to-take debate just doesn’t happen. The finishing icing-on-the-cake touch to this ensemble would be this sharks tooth necklace but wanderlust aside I must say I’m pretty into this look and Urban Outfitters as a whole to be truthful, once you look past the heavily ripped shorts and cropped tees that is. In fact two other items may have found their way into my basket when placing this order, you know ‘cos clothes are what I need when we’ll soon be moving house so keep your peepers peeled as they might be making their Cagney and Lace debut soon.
This week signals the arrival of my long awaited hair appointment and I literally cannot wait, see ya roots, unrequited grey hairs and split ends. I’ll be celebrating with zero calorie snacks (yeah right) and taking all the pictures so expect more fashion content coming your way stat.
What do you do when you’re not feeling body confident?
